The longest rookie holdout under the current CBA continues, but there appears to be movement.

As any Chargers fan is already painfully aware, third overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft Joey Bosa and the San Diego Chargers have been in a stalemate over contract negotiations for weeks now. And since the beginning of training camp, they had not even been in contact. That appears to have changed as USA Today’s Jarrett Bell reports that the two sides began talking again this week.

This is definitely good news, but as Michael David Smith reports, the two sides are still not close to hammering out a deal. That shouldn’t be surprising to anyone, though. After weeks of silence, the two sides could never be expected to immediately come to an agreement just because they’re finally talking again.

That said, it remains incredibly unlikely that the Chargers will fail to sign their first round draft pick, and this is an incredibly important first step toward getting Bosa in and getting him prepared for the regular season. One or both sides will need to make concessions, so hopefully, common sense prevails and we can start focusing on football again.
