The 2016 San Diego Chargers offense will feature a new offensive coordinator in Ken Whisenhunt (though, obviously, we are already familiar with his work), a new starting wide receiver in Travis Benjamin, and a new #2 tight end in Hunter Henry. They have lost longtime Rivers-favorite Malcom Floyd as well as the last heir apparent to Antonio Gates, Ladarius Green. They are, however, returning all other relevant pass catchers (and some irrelevant ones, too).
The question posed this week is, "who among this group will put up the most receiving yards in 2016?" For reference, we're providing last year's Chargers receiving statistics below:
Name | G | GS | Tgt | Rec | Yds |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Danny Woodhead | 16 | 1 | 106 | 80 | 755 |
Keenan Allen | 8 | 8 | 89 | 67 | 725 |
Antonio Gates | 11 | 4 | 85 | 56 | 630 |
Malcom Floyd | 15 | 13 | 68 | 30 | 561 |
Stevie Johnson | 10 | 8 | 65 | 45 | 497 |
Dontrelle Inman | 14 | 7 | 63 | 35 | 486 |
Ladarius Green | 13 | 11 | 63 | 37 | 429 |
Javontee Herndon | 8 | 2 | 33 | 24 | 195 |
Melvin Gordon | 14 | 13 | 37 | 33 | 192 |
Branden Oliver | 8 | 1 | 15 | 13 | 112 |
Tyrell Williams | 4 | 0 | 5 | 2 | 90 |
Donald Brown | 9 | 2 | 13 | 8 | 88 |
John Phillips | 16 | 5 | 11 | 10 | 69 |
Vincent Brown | 1 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 22 |
David Johnson | 16 | 4 | 2 | 1 | 4 |
Based on last year's numbers (and just a basic evaluation of the relative talent of the receiving corps), the favorite to lead the team in receiving yards has to be Keenan Allen assuming you expect him to reach double-digit games played. Last year's team leader, Danny Woodhead, seems unlikely to repeat given the new additions to the offense and the likelihood that Allen won't miss half the season again.
Anyway, vote in the poll. Comment below to let us know who you voted for and why.
