Charger fans experienced a typically quiet "legal tampering period" over the last 2 days when teams were allowed to talk to free agents from other teams, but can not officially sign players until 4pm EST today.
Well that changed this morning.
With less than 12 hours until the new league year, and teams being allowed to officially sign free agents from other teams, the Chargers will apparently be making a little splash at a position of great need.
I’m told WR Travis Benjamin plans to sign with the #Chargers when the market officially opens tomorrow. San Diego gets a dangerous weapon.

This was then "confirmed" by UT beat writer Michael Gehlken
Good morning, San Diego: Chargers agreed to terms with WR Travis Benjamin, source confirms. Speedy WR, returner. @Rand_Getlin first reported

This is a good move for the Chargers, as long as they didn't overpay. Rumor has it Benjamin was looking for somewhere in the neighborhood of $6M per year, and with a few other teams reportedly in the mix, it could be a bit above that.
Benjamin also helps out the return game which has been a huge weakness for the Chargers for more than a few years now.
Hopefully before the free agency flood gates officially open in a few hours, the Chargers manage to lock down at least one of their TE's and CB Patrick Robinson.
