Today started off with the unsurprising cut of ILB Donald Butler. Shortly after that cut was confirmed by the team, the announced he was one of four cuts made by the team today.
We've released four players, including Donald Butler and Donald Brown.

The three that were cut were RB Donald Brown, and 2 more linebackers Kavell Conner and Chi Chi Ariguzo. According to Union Tribune beat writer Michael Gehlken, this move frees up a nice amount of cap space.
Releases of LB Donald Butler, RB Donald Brown create $8.15M in cash savings for Chargers as free agency approaches next week.

Add to that almost $1M for Conner and the Chargers should be at over $30M for cap space going into Free Agency which starts next week.
The only real surprise here is Kavell Conner. Conner was quality ILB depth and one of the better special teams players on the team. With the Donald Butler release, this move is even more surprising as it does not give the Chargers ANY real depth at that position. There are some quality LB's in FA so the Chargers could be players to add someone there.
All in all, any day that your favorite football team can get rid of Donald Butler AND Donald Brown is a good day.
