Chargers send Attaochu to IR, call up Carrethers

The announcement was a few days ago, but its official now, Attaochu to IR

Another one bites the dust.

We were told this was coming a few days ago, but as of today it’s official. OLB Jeremiah Attaochu has been added to the Injured Reserve list and will miss the rest of the season. Nose Tackle Ryan Carrrethers has been called up to take his spot on the 53 man roster.

Carrethers flashed some at the end of last season, but through all of training camp and preseason he was no longer flashing for the positive, but in fact showing some pretty bad stretches of plays. Hopefully some time on the practice squad gave him the motivation he needs to show up more on Sundays.

Attaochu has been a strange and sad story this season. Many of us were curious when it became apparent that Kyle Emanuel had jumped him in the depth chart. Then we got even more curious when he was seeing almost 0 snaps in the preseason. Then when that pattern continued into the regular season that curiosity gave way to concern. After weeks of not being able to earn more snaps and dealing with minor injuries, he has now sustained an injury significant enough to end his season with a broken foot.

We may have seen the last of JA play for the Chargers. He has one year remaining, but has yet to do anything or stay healthy enough to keep him around, especially when the Chargers would free up about $1 million in cap space if they release him after the season. Will they keep him? Probably. Will I be surprised if they let him go? Not at all.
