It’s not that I’m not happy that the San Diego Chargers defeated the Houston Texans (on the road!) yesterday. It’s not that I’m not rooting for Philip Rivers and the gang to make it to the playoffs and go on a historic run that ends in a Super Bowl, it’s that I had to ask myself a question this morning:
Do I think the Chargers can win 6 games in a row?
The answer, for me anyway, is no.
I think Philip Rivers might be having his best season to date, and I think Casey Hayward is the best free agent signing Tom Telesco has ever made, but I don’t think this team has the horses to take down the Buccaneers, Panthers, Chiefs and Raiders without making a single misstep.
So, with that in mind, I think it’s worth asking if it is time to root for the team to lose (and get a higher draft pick) rather than rooting for them to do something you don’t actually believe they can do.
I know, I know. I’m a wet blanket and this is a terrible idea, but it’s one that I felt like talking about this morning on my podcast. Enjoy!
