Do you remember the last time the San Diego Chargers hosted the Miami Dolphins for a game at Qualcomm Stadium? It wasn’t that long ago. In fact it was 11 months and 1 week ago to be exact. The Chargers beat the Dolphins in their last meeting at Qualcomm Stadium by a score of 30-14. I only remember this because it was supposed to be the Chargers’ last home game in San Diego, forever.
A lot has changed since that game, but a lot hasn’t.
The Dolphins come to San Diego with an even bigger cloud of uncertainty than in their last meeting. In 2015, Chargers fans knew the team would be filing for relocation, and if the owners approved the Carson stadium plan, the Chargers were as good as gone. This time around, Dean Spanos is coming fresh off his second major setback of 2016 in his quest for a new stadium for his football franchise. Nobody is sure what Dean’s next move will be, not even Dean, but with 3 more home games after Sunday’s, emotions won’t be nearly as high as they were after the final whistle last December.
Believe it or not, the Chargers’ playoff hopes are still alive. According to Football Outsiders, they have better odds at making the playoffs than the Buffalo Bills. Are the Chargers good enough to continue their push to the playoffs? At the rate injuries are piling up, it’s going to be a tough road to the playoffs.
Should the Chargers defeat the Dolphins, they would go into their bye week riding a 2-game winning streak, on top of being victorious in 4 of their last 5 games. After their bye, the Chargers woul head into Houston to face a very beatable Texans.
With a win on Sunday, the Chargers’ 2016 season could well be back on track.
