This is just bad news all around.

Jason Verrett has a partial tear of the ACL. Getting tests to see if they have to shut him down for the season. #Chargers#NBC7SportsWrap

What’s the difference between a “torn ACL” and a partially-torn ACL? The answer to that question is pretty vague. It could be a tiny tear or it could be like 60% torn, and there’s a big difference between the two.
One thing that is for sure is that Jason Verrett would certainly screw his knee up worse by playing on it, so he’ll certainly need to sit some some amount of time. It sounds like he’s done for the season as a result of this injury.
Chargers CB Jason Verrett said he expects to undergo surgery on partially torn ACL. "My season is done with."

This would explain why the team was so quick to sign back former 2013 draft pick CB Steve Williams today. It also means that the team faces a terrifying possibility that Casey Hayward and Craig Mager are the team’s starting CBs in Week 5 against a very good Oakland Raiders passing attack.
Another week, another season-ending injury for the San Diego Chargers.
