The last time the San Diego Chargers were in Denver, the hometown Broncos looked quite different than they do now. The game started off with Brock Osweiler under center, and after Denver turned the ball over to the Chargers 5 times, Brock was benched for Peyton Manning. I was at that game in person and it was quite the site to behold when Manning came in to play.
As we all know, the Broncos went on to win the game and secure the #1 seed in the AFC Playoffs on their way to a Super Bowl 50 Championship. The Chargers on the other hand secured the #3 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and landed themselves Joey Bosa. Things seemed to have worked out okay for both teams since that last game at Mile High.
Will the Chargers be gifted the ball five times again? Doubtful, but this team has shown they don’t need those gifts to get it done this year.
Both teams are coming off big wins: the Chargers overtime win over the Atlanta Falcons, and the Broncos spoiled Osweiler’s homecoming by completely dominating the Houston Texans.
The good news for the Chargers and their fans? The Chargers are significantly better than the Texans, and Philip Rivers – not Brock Osweiler – is their quarterback. Despite being without some of their biggest weapons in Keenan Allen and Danny Woodhead, Von Miller and company will still have their hands full all game trying to stop the Chargers’ top-10 offense.
If they win this game, then the San Diego Chargers will have met their 2015 win total halfway though the season. Can the Chargers put together a three-game win streak for the first time in 2 seasons? Can they sweep the Broncos for the first time since 2010? Crazier things have happened, but either way it should be a fun game.
