Mike McCoy extended through 2017

Tom Telesco announced today that Mike McCoy has been extended as the Head Coach of the San Diego Chargers through the 2017 season.

General Manager Tom Telesco addressed the media this morning and announced that Head Coach Mike McCoy has been extended through the 2017 season. This adds one year to his current contract that was set to expire at the end of the 2016 season.

This move may have been necessary to try and bring in assistant coaches to fill the holes left by the 6 assistants that were fired. If this remained POSSIBLY McCoy's last season what coaches would want to come here? If they sign and McCoy doesn't get extended at the end of this season, they are probably back on the street again. With McCoy being extended, these possible coordinators have some stability and "better" job security for the short term.

I personally think McCoy should have been let go, however with the team not firing him, this is the only course of action they left themselves.

In other news, TT also confirmed they have already started interviewing for the vacant coaching positions but would not give any names.
