San Diego Chargers sign new LB Coach and CFL standout LB

While all of the stadium news was developing yesterday, the Chargers made two signings, a coach and a player.

The Chargers were able to sneak two signings yesterday while the stadium situation was blowing up in Dean's face.

The former LB's coach Mike Nolan stepped down to "persue other options" so the Chargers snapped up recently fired Defensive Coordinator of the Jacksonville Jaguars Bob Babich. Under Babich the Jaguars defense, while not tops in the league, did steadily improve for his 3 years at the helm. Prior to the Jaguars however, Babich was the LB coach for the Chicago Bears for 9 seasons where he helped coach Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs to multiple pro bowls over that time. Hopefully he can teach Manti Te'o how to tackle and doesn't hold Denzel Perryman back and cause him to sophomore slump his second season away.

The team also signed a player. CFL standout Dexter McCoil (6'4" 220lbs) is listed as an ILB and agreed to terms that have not yet been released. He was the CFL's "Most Outstanding Rookie" in 2014 with 67 tackles, 4 sacks, and 6 interceptions (3 of them he brought back for TD's). His college ball was at Tulsa where he amassed 318 tackles, 18 interceptions, and 43 passes defended as a safety. He will likely be given the chance to fill the role of shadowing the TE that Eric Weddle performed, but in a bigger package.
