The San Diego Chargers Depth Chart is Trash

There is no reason to pay attention to the San Diego Chargers depth chart, especially in the preseason, because it's filled with lies.

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

I used to do this thing each preseason where I would give the updated San Diego Chargers depth chart every time the team sent the game release (all the news and info about an upcoming game) to the media. It got some hits, so it seemed worth doing.

This year, I didn't do that, and I'm so happy that I didn't. Just look at this crap...

In "The Lightning Report", which is basically a catch-all blog for random news and notes and videos on Chargers.com, the team posted two items on August 31, 2015. Here's the first:

I'm not even going to bother getting the entire depth chart because this depth chart is trash and deserves to be thrown right in the garbage, "updates" from the roster moves and all. (Although someone might want to tell the creator of the depth chart that the NFL only allows 11 players on the field at any given time.)

Why is it trash? Because it still has Johnnie Troutman as the team's starting Right Guard and it still has D.J. Fluker as the team's starting Right Tackle. Even people who don't follow the team know that's not true anymore.

In fact, later that same day on that very same page, they had a special guest columnist who also knew that it wasn't true....

This is dumb. Not that the post was written, that is cool (and, as per usual, I love D.J. Fluker's attitude), but the fact that they won't bother to change the depth chart of their offensive line while also promoting Fluker's adjustment to his new position.

It's dumber than the fact that they list two starting Tight Ends because they don't want to hurt Ladarius Green's ego by telling him he's just keeping Antonio Gates' seat warm for four weeks, or the fact that they list three starting WRs so that Stevie Johnson can still be proud that he's a "starter".

Considering this your daily Public Service Announcement from BFTB. Don't trust the Chargers' depth charts. Their depth charts are trash and there's nothing to be gained from searching them out and reading them.
