The Chargers had an open practice today for FanFest in front of their home crowd inside of Qualcomm Stadium. We appreciate everyone who came and joined us today but let's get to what happened on the field. As always we start with the injuries.
DT Sean Lissemore not participating in drills, has a soft cast on his left arm.
— Eric Williams (@eric_d_williams) August 8, 2015
The big news of the day was with Johnnie Troutman at practice for the first time in two days, his starting spot at Right Guard was not waiting for him.
Joe Barksdale at RT & DJ Fluker at RG with 1st team early. It's happening. It's happening.
— Garrett Sisti (@GarrettSisti) August 8, 2015
Fluker at guard and Barksdale at tackle, even with a healthy Troutman. IT’S ACTUALLY HAPPENING!!
— Bolts From The Blue (@BFTB_Chargers) August 8, 2015
During first team drills that Offensive Line looked good.
Running lanes for days now. Hm
— Daniel Stebbins (@dstebbs) August 8, 2015
Gordon rips off a long run behind RG DJ Fluker, who bench pressed two defenders to open the hole.
— The Lightning Round (@Lightning_Round) August 8, 2015
It was an up and down day for DJ Fluker in pass protection.
I hate to break it to you but the Chargers have an productive O-Line on the field getting some push right now
— Garrett Sisti (@GarrettSisti) August 8, 2015
Fluker needs some help with pass protection. Doesn’t know his assignments at guard. Such a beast on runs though.
— Bolts From The Blue (@BFTB_Chargers) August 8, 2015
Johnnie Troutman also seems to be taking the demotion well.
63 looking real salty.
— Jerome R. Watson (@SkinnyDuzIt) August 8, 2015
This is a very interesting point.
Now that Troutman is down to 2nd team RG, if Sirles outplays him I could see him being cut. Contract year, easy transaction
— Daniel Stebbins (@dstebbs) August 8, 2015
Melvin Gordon did drop another pass today but he looked good with the ball in his hands and running behind this new first team Offensive Line.
11-on-11s Fluker still at RG. Gordon just broke one to the house
— Garrett Sisti (@GarrettSisti) August 8, 2015
Melvin Gordon is a lock for ROY if he and this line stays healthy.
— Bolts From The Blue (@BFTB_Chargers) August 8, 2015
Another position change looks to be happening as well.
Ricardo Mathews has looked to jump Kendall Reyes on the depth chart. Reyes running with 2s, no snaps with 1s yet
— Garrett Sisti (@GarrettSisti) August 8, 2015
Notable change - Reyes and Philon running second team in 11/11. Philon makes his first "tackle", stopping Oliver for short gain.
— The Lightning Round (@Lightning_Round) August 8, 2015
Even with the second team it is what you'd expect from Kendall Reyes.
Reyes whiffs on tackle three yards deep in backfield. What else is new?
— The Lightning Round (@Lightning_Round) August 8, 2015
Darrell Stuckey made the play of the on defense by intercepting a Kellen Clemens pass in the end zone.
Stuckey makes plays. Pick in the the end zone. Get. Him. Snaps.
— Garrett Sisti (@GarrettSisti) August 8, 2015
Oh, almost forgot - need to see more of @DarrellStuckey with the first team. Like, as in, MAKE THE MAN A STARTER, ALREADY!
— The Lightning Round (@Lightning_Round) August 8, 2015
Patrick Robinson continues his strong camp as the nickel corner.
Patrick Robinson runs step for step with Keenan in the spot, breaks up a corner route. 1st team offense holds true to form, settles for FG.
— The Lightning Round (@Lightning_Round) August 8, 2015
Robinson looks like a really solid nickel CB https://t.co/qncuoI2AbN

Other news and notes:
UDFA Wide Receiver Tyrell Williams had himself a good showing today.
Tyrell with the grab over the middle
— Daniel Stebbins (@dstebbs) August 8, 2015
Tyrell Williams with a hell of an effort but only one foot
— Daniel Stebbins (@dstebbs) August 8, 2015
The other UDFA Wide Receiver Titus Davis did not.
That clank you just heard was the ball careening of the hands of Titus Davis.
— The Lightning Round (@Lightning_Round) August 8, 2015
Titus Davis does everything great except catch the ball. Unfortunately, that’s important for a WR.

-The Undrafted Free Agent to watch is Outside Linebacker Ryan Mueller. Showed a quick first step and got a touch sack and a run stop behind the line of scrimmage today. Has been consistent all camp long.
-I think this is worth repeating: Orlando Franklin is a monster. He had two pancakes today and one of them was on the Chargers best Defensive End Corey Liuget. The left side of the Offensive Line will be a lot of fun to watch.
-Melvin Ingram looked particularly good today. He beat Barksdale off the edge twice and was somewhat disruptive in the run game as well.
-Craig Mager had his struggles again. There is a difference between how Mager was playing Day 1 of Training camp to now but he's still not up to speed.
-In punt drills the depth chart today was Jacoby Jones, Keenan Allen, Chris Davis and Javontee Herdon.
-Speaking of kicks, Nick Novak can breathe a sigh of relief because the Field Goal Kicker job is his. Josh Lambo had a bad miss today from 40-45 yards. He's also missed a couple in camp too.
-Two UDFA's that are really battling it out are both Running Backs Jahwan Edwards and Dreamius Smith. It's been a very back and forth battle so far.
-Eric Weddle punted today and it was awful, so here's to hoping he never has to.
-If the Offensive Line stays as it was today I guess you can expect this:
Super Bowl Parade on 5th Ave coming. https://t.co/6hEKAgJWqI
