Antonio Gates has no idea why he failed PED test

The Chargers future Hall of Famer is preparing to serve a four-game suspension from the NFL, but he's not entirely certain what caused the suspension.

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

For the first time since the announcement of his four-game suspension by the NFL as the result of a positive test for a performance enhancing drug, San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates plead ignorance:

Typical Gates answer right there. He owns up to what he's done, admits that he made a mistake, but says that the positive PED test was a result of him not reading the label when he purchases supplements from the store.

Do you believe him? Do you not believe him?

As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter. Whether or not I believe Gates doesn't change the fact that he'll miss the first four games of the season, and it doesn't tarnish his overall reputation with me.

It is interesting, though, that when those that aren't too familiar with Antonio Gates look back at his career, they'll see a suspension for holding out during a contract dispute with the team and a suspension for using a banned performance-enhancing substance. Hopefully that doesn't overshadow the wonderful career he's had.
