2015 NFL Draft: San Diego Chargers use final draft pick on DT Darius Philon

The San Diego Chargers added some much-needed depth to their defensive line with their 6th Rd pick, Darius Philon from Arkansas.

Without a 7th round pick, the San Diego Chargers' day is done unless they trade back into this year's draft.....

Darius Philon was project to go as high as the 4th round, so this is definitely a good value, and he gives the team some much-needed depth on the defensive line for this year and beyond.

At 6'1" and a little below 300 lbs, expect Philon to challenge Kendall Reyes and Ricardo Mathews for some snaps at DE. He's probably not big enough to get regular snaps at the Nose Tackle position, but he can certainly play one of those DT spots when the team goes into it's 2-4-5 nickel defensive package (which is often).

Darius Philon is best known for his recruiting mess when he committed to Alabama on signing day, but because of a miscommunication, there wasn?t an offer sheet to sign because Nick Saban wanted him to grayshirt for the 2012 season.

Philon eventually signed with Arkansas despite never visiting the campus, redshirting in 2012 while rehabbing from a knee injury his senior season.

This pick highlights just how disappointing Kendall Reyes has been since his exciting rookie season. Hopefully, Philon won't be asked to do too much too soon, because there is definitely some potential there for him to become a solid DE starter, especially when he bulks up a bit more.
