Credit where it's due, Darren Smith broke this one....
Chargers took Denzel Perryman— Darren Smith (@DSmithShow) May 2, 2015
There was a ton of value left on the board for a team in desperate need of help as pass-rusher and on the offensive line. Yet, Tom Telesco once again laughed in the face of many in selecting an Inside Linebacker with a 2nd or 3rd round grade.
Denzel Perryman is probably not a starter on the 2015 San Diego Chargers, unless the team is that desperate to get out of the Donald Butler contract. If that's the case, then this could arguably be the second consecutive pick where Telesco is drafting to cover up for a mistake made in free agency.
Perryman isn't a great athlete, and he doesn't have great size, but he does have great instincts. How that makes him anything more than a backup for Manti Te'o, I guess we will find out.
