Huge news out off San Diego: GM Tom Telesco received a multi-yr extension in the summer. He is safe. Team will review coaches after season— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) December 6, 2015
But unlike the front office, McCoy's fate will be determined after the season. Telesco's extension previously un-announced— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) December 6, 2015
Telesco very much will remain part of franchise moving forward. Team has faith in McCoy and laud his leadership despite injuries...— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) December 6, 2015
I'm not sure you could argue with the rationale of signing Tom Telesco to a multi-year contract extension last offseason. His draft picks (Jason Verrett, Keenan Allen, etc.) seemed like they were smart moves. His signings this past offseason appeared to be exactly what the team needed. Hell, even I predicted the team to go 12-4 before the season started.
However, you could very much argue with the rationale of bringing back Mike McCoy. Telesco staying with the same head coach for the San Diego Chargers, which would probably mean that the rest of the coaching staff is nuked, would be a big risk on his part.
