San Diego Chargers Training Camp Notes: August 5, 2015

Let's all over-evaluate talent in practice as we break down the San Diego Chargers Training Camp today.

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The Chargers were back at practice today after having Tuesday off and some Chargers came back from missing practice and others did not.

The big news of the day today was the changing of the Guard, literally. Here's how it unfolded.

Joe Barksdale started the day off strong and Johnnie Troutman did not and than this happened.

If you're wondering, Troutman was late to get over and his man got what would have been a free shot at Danny Woodhead 3 or 4 yards in the backfield.  Offensive Line Coach Joe D'Alessandris took notice.

Joe Barksdale stays in and plays with the second team offense.

Someone was listening.

That was a good sign. The second time the starters came back on the field Joe Barksdale was at Right Tackle and DJ Fluker was at Right Guard and then they shuffled the following snap.

Fast forward to the third time the starters came on. Joe D giving Troutman a chance to redeem himself.

Here's where Troutman cemented his fate for the day.

Johnnie Troutman never returned to the line-up. He stood on the sideline an never received treatment so his injury does not look to be serious but he lost his spot. Whether that's for the future remains to be seen but he got out-worked today by Joe Barksdale.

Here's Michael Gehlken to ruin all the fun.

There was another interesting shift among the starters but this time from a rookie on the D-Line.

Craig Mager making some progress. Baby steps.

Throughout camp I've seen Craig Mager beat on the outside  specifically on a Go route & and also a Post route . If you read my article on him, that was a fear of mine, and I said that I thought to better utilize his skills he'd need to be moved inside as a slot CB and get him moving sideline to sideline.  He got reps there today and he made a good play on a Drag route.

A couple of notes on Melvin Gordon.

Other news and notes:

Just in case you're wondering on goal line packages, looks like Chris Hairston would be the extra lineman.

Kyle Emanuel also got some starters snaps at LOLB.

Interesting.

There's only one "r" in Burwell. Typo.

Hope to see everyone at FanFest on Saturday.
