The San Diego Chargers just announced nine players that have been signed to their practice squad to start the season. Here's who they are:
- Ryan Lindley, QB
- Javontee Herndon, WR
- Torrence Allen, WR
- Jeremiah Sirles, OT
- Craig Watts, OG
- Chas Alecxih, DL
- Cordarro Law, OLB
- Greg Ducre, CB
- Adrian Phillips, S
Wow, I have egg on my face. I really didn't think the team would sign more than six of their own players from the preseason onto their practice squad, but here are eight and there is still one empty slot left.
As practice squads go, this is fairly typical. This squad provides an extra layer of depth at QB, WR, OT, OG, DL, OLB, CB and Safety. The only spot not getting extra depth at the moment is RB.
Here's my prediction: At some point today or tomorrow, the Chargers will sign a defensive lineman or be rewarded one via waivers. When that happens, either Marion Grice or Branden Oliver (my vote is Oliver) will be waived and eventually (hopefully) signed to the team's practice squad to be the tenth and final member.
(or they could just be crossing i's and dotting t's with the tenth guy right now.)
