Corey Liuget will be a Charger next season too. Late tonight it was announced that the Chargers exercised the option to extend the contract of their 2011 1st round draft pick for a 5th season. Liuget will make $6.969 Million guaranteed, and picking up this option has no affect on the current season salary cap.
Luiget has a total of 13.5 sacks in this 3-year career with 5.5 coming this past season. In addition, the DE has been rock solid, missing only one start in the span of his career. Liuget is part of a young defensive line group that also includes Kendall Reyes and Sean Lissemore. The Chargers pass rush looks to improve on last season with the return of OLB Dwight Freeney and a full season's work from Melvin Ingram.
In other news around the league, options were also picked up for players including J.J. Watt, Muhammad Wilkerson and Jimmy Smith.
