The 2013 Comeback Player of the Year is @Chargers QB Philip Rivers! #NFLHonors pic.twitter.com/mhz4eygb2Z
— NFL (@nfl) February 1, 2014
Hey, that's exciting!
Pretty hard to argue this choice, as Philip Rivers was on the verge of being thought of as one of the league's worst, most mistake-prone QBs, before reclaiming his spot as a Top 5 QB under Ken Whisenhunt and Mike McCoy this season.
Here is what he came from and what he was able to do this season:
- 2012: 64.1% comp., 3606 pass yds, 26 TDs, 15 INTs, 15 fumbles, 40.57 QBR
- 2013: 69.5% comp., 4478 pass yds, 32 TDs, 11 INTs, 3 fumbles, 71.69 QBR
Mike McCoy's #1 job as the new head coach of the Chargers was to steady the QB position, because it's the most important position on any football team. Now he's done that, by helping "El Capitan" rediscover his considerable talents.
Unfortunately, San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen lost out on winning Offensive Rookie of the Year. That honor went to Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy.
