AFC Playoff Picture Week 14: Get Your Popcorn Ready

New, comments

Who do San Diego Chargers fans need to root for in week 14 to help get the 8-4 Bolts back in the playoffs?

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

There are 11 teams in the AFC with a winning record. All 11 of those teams play another team with a winning record. The Chargers stand a game above 6 teams with a 7-5 record in the Wild-Card chase, but the playoff picture should clear up a little more this week with all of the tough games.

Current Playoff Picture

(1) Patriots (9-3)

(2) Broncos (9-3)

(3) Bengals (8-3-1)

(4) Colts (8-4)

Wild-Card

(5) Chargers (8-4)

(6) Dolphins (7-5)

Contenders

(7) Chiefs (7-5)

(8) Bills (7-5)

(9) Ravens (7-5)

(10) Steelers (7-5)

(11) Browns (7-5)

(12) Texans (6-6)

Chargers Week 14 Matchup: New England Patriots

A huge game if the Chargers can pull off a win with the current #1 seed coming to town. 9 wins (and a 7-3 conference record) would mean that the Bolts could probably win one more game and be playing football in January. It would also open up the possibility of an AFC West title, especially with the Broncos coming to town in week 15.

Other Important Matchups

Steelers at Bengals

Two of the most unpredictable teams in the NFL play this Sunday. With the Bengals holding sole possession of 1st place in the AFC North, a Bengals' victory would help the Bolts potential wild card odds.

Ravens at Dolphins

The Bolts have the head to head advantage over the Ravens and not the Dolphins, so I am pulling for the Ravens to pull this one out. However, it could get tricky considering that their remaining games are not that tough (Jaguars, Texans, Browns).

Colts at Browns

The Browns are fading, and a Colts' victory would increase the Chargers' cushion in the wild-card race ever so slightly.

Bills at Broncos

A Bills upset would make them a very intriguing contender and give the Chargers hope to win the division, but I don't see that one happening in Denver.

Chiefs at Cardinals

Go Cardinals. This one is easy, but could go either way considering that both teams currently hold a 2 game losing streak.
