Following last night's improbable 38-35 comeback victory over the San Francisco 49ers, the San Diego Chargers needed some help today. Well, they got that help from one of the unlikeliest possible sources. The Case Keenum-led Houston Texans absolutely routed the Baltimore Ravens.
This takes a situation that was wildly complicated and given us one of the simplest possible playoff pictures you can imagine. If the Chargers win in Kansas City next Sunday, they're going the playoffs. If they lose, they are out.
Now, there are scenarios involving a tie game where they could still make it. Those scenarios are dumb and I refuse to acknowledge them at this time. Go ahead and root for the Broncos tomorrow night over the Cincinnati Bengals, but know that you're wasting your breath. Just remember: win and they're in. That's what it really comes down to, and honestly that's all we can ask for after the way this season has played out. Hopefully, Philip Rivers' back has another month-plus left in it.
