Again today, we have a tale of good–news/bad–news.
Good news today: Nick Hardwick is practicing, meaning he's cleared for football activities. He was a limited participant, which is expected since the concussion protocol dictates he slowly ramps up his physical activity while observed by physicians. The fact that he's questionable for Sunday and not outright out or even doubtful is an encouraging sign for him to see the field. He says he feels good and things are moving in the right direction, but there are no guarantees. Also good: Weddle and King Dunlap were full participants again today and are probable for Sunday.
Now for the bad, less–encouraging news: Ryan Mathews missed practice again today. All week, McCoy and the coaching staff were saying they would follow the same regimen as the last three weeks where Mathews rests Wednesday and Thursday, but practices on Friday. That didn't happen today and his game-time status is now officially questionable. It may be slightly encouraging that it's only questionable and not doubtful or out. But it is still a little worrisome that he's not probable like he had been all weeks prior.
Jeromey Clary being questionable also weakens the team some. We've seen what the offense can do with their starting line in tact, but with three of the starters listed as questionable, things can become more difficult for Rivers and the tailbacks. If there's any bright side there, it's that Denver's defensive line isn't quite as strong as Cincinnati's, but the team will likely feel the absence of any of the Offensive Linemen.
Denver Broncos Injury Report
NAME | POSITION | INJURY | WED. | THU. | FRI. | GAME STATUS |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Champ Bailey | CB | Shoulder | FP | FP | FP | Probable |
Joel Dreessen | TE | Knee | FP | FP | FP | Probable |
Duke Ihenacho | S | Concussion | FP | FP | FP | Probable |
Winston Justice | T | Finger | FP | FP | FP | Probable |
Chris Kuper | G | Ankle | FP | FP | FP | Probable |
Steve Vallos | C | Concussion | FP | FP | FP | Probable |
Kayvon Webster | CB | Thumb | FP | FP | FP | Probable |
Wes Welker | WR | Concussion | FP | FP | FP | Probable |
Derek Wolfe | DE | Illness | DNP | DNP | DNP | Out |
Everyone on the Broncos injury report is now listed as probable, save one key player: Derek Wolfe. With Von Miller out for the year and now Wolfe not playing, the Broncos defensive front now loses a lot of the bite they once had. I wouldn't go so far as to say the Chargers will have an easy time of it on Sunday, but Wolfe being out certainly makes things less difficult for the offense.
While not as much of an impact as Wolfe being out, Rahim Moore is not listed on the injury report because he still hasn't been activated of IR, so he will not play on Sunday either. This should also make things slightly easier in the Chargers passing game.
All other active players practiced in full today and are probable for Sunday. It's amazing how much the bye really helps teams rest and get healthy.
