Manti Te'o missing valuable time - Bill Williamson
Te’o was not practicing Monday. He was hurt Aug. 8 in the preseason opener. When Te’o appeared in a walking boot Aug. 10 San Diego coach Mike McCoy said he’d be in it for a week. Yet, it has now been more than three weeks.
Newest Chargers Eager to Make a Mark - Ricky Henne
"l think that’s something Tom Telesco, the rest of the personnel staff, myself, coaches - that’s what we’re going to do throughout the year," said McCoy. "Anytime we have an opportunity to improve the football team, certain things come up, injuries happen on your football team, so one move might lead to another move, and that’s the business….I think we got better. And that’s our number one thing we’re going to do. Anything we do to improve the football team, improve the organization, that’s what we’re going to try to do."
Eddie Royal Returns to Practice - Ricky Henne
Now, Royal has put the setback behind him and is working hard to play in the season opener on Monday night against the Houston Texans. The Chargers won’t release an injury report until Thursday, but Royal is hopeful he can suit up.
Talks quiet on Donald Butler contract - Michael Gehlken (paywall)
Sources familiar with the situation said Monday that talks are quiet between the Chargers and Eugene Parker, Butler's agent, and barring a development over the next week, negotiations will be tabled until after the season.
Fantasy football sleepers Week 1: Ben Tate, Felix Jones worth considering at running back - Matthew Fairburn
Arian Foster's injury is a concern, whether the Texans admit it or not. His workload has been enormous over the last few seasons, and it's starting wear on him. Foster will likely play against the Chargers, but the game shouldn't be in the balance for the entire night. That will open the door for Ben Tate to get 12-15 carries, and that's more than enough to make him a Week 1 flex option.
