San Diego Chargers WR Eddie Royal to miss time with a bruised lung

As if the San Diego Chargers didn't have enough injuries to their group of wide receivers in the last two weeks, Eddie Royal left practice today in an ambulance. Fortunately, his diagnosis is simply a bruised lung and he should be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

For those that missed the beginning part of it, here's the entire story about Eddie Royal today told through tweets:

Well, uh, bruised lung isn't so bad considering all the things that went through my head when I heard that San Diego Chargers WR Eddie Royal had to have an ambulance drive out onto the field and escort him to the hospital on a gurney.

Where was I, considering I had attended practice this morning? I left 5 minutes before this happened, and was on my way home to try to get the post about CB Steve Williams' season-ending injury up on the site.

Bruised lungs aren't that uncommon in the NFL, specifically with WRs.

  • Larry Fitzgerald bruised his lung in the last game of the 2011-2012 season.
  • Former Chargers WR Charly Martin suffered a bruised lung in Week 1 last season and missed one week.
  • Cleveland Browns rookie pass rusher Barkevious Mingo bruised his lung just a few days ago. He's expected to miss one to two weeks.

See? So Royal will be fine. He'll make the team (he pretty much has to with how flimsy this group has been) and will probably be ready to go against the Texans in Week 1, making this injury not too dissimilar from the one that held him out of most of the preseason last year.
