San Diego Chargers CB Steve Williams Tears Pectoral Muscle, Expected to Miss Season

After tearing his pectoral muscle in Thursday night's game between the San Diego Chargers and the Chicago Bears, rookie cornerback Steve Williams is expected to miss the entire 2013 regular season.

The UT's Michael Gehlken reports...

The injury is a big blow for both the San Diego Chargers and  Williams, who was expected to contribute a lot of snaps to the Chargers' defense this season. Steve Williams never missed a game in his three seasons at Cal, so let's wish him a strong recovery and hope he gets back to being his durable self next year.

For the Chargers, this leaves the cornerback position as follows:

  • Derek Cox
  • Shareece Wright
  • Johnny Patrick (who's currently not practicing due to injury)
  • Cromartie pt. deux (Marcus Cromartie)
  • Josh Johnson
  • and some other guys.

Marcus Gilchrist also plays corner, but it's not like there's a lot of depth behind him at the strong safety position. Does Telesco look to the free agent market? Pretty slim pickings there as well with the only free agents I've heard of being Sheldon Brown and Shawntae Spencer. Most likely we're going to be seeing a lot of Cromartie and Johnson.

Deep breath. Exhale.
