Life's Bounces - Peter King
"I mean, scoring 41 here at Arrowhead? I never thought that. I thought maybe this would be a 24-20 game, something like that. But our receivers have just come through for us. Keenan Allen’s been huge for us all year. [Tight end] Ladarius Green with a huge play today. Seyi Ajirotutu with the winning touchdown. Different guys making the plays for us. It’s awesome to see."
Week 12 Injury Aftermath - Andrew Potter
Ryan Mathews aggravated an existing injury to his right hamstring during the third quarter on Sunday. Mathews (1.6%) and Danny Woodhead (1.7%) have been basically equally efficient in the running game so far, but the less effective Ronnie Brown (-9.4%) would see an expanded role if Mathews misses any time.
Four Months After a Concussion, Your Brain Still Looks Different Than Before - Joseph Stromberg
"These results suggest that there are potentially two different modes of recovery for concussion, with the memory, thinking and behavioral symptoms improving more quickly than the physiological injuries in the brain," Andrew R. Mayer, a neuroscientist at the University of New Mexico and lead author of the study, explained in a press statement issued with the paper.
PFF Reaction Blog: Week 12 - PFF Analysis Team
As a receiver out of the backfield only Darren Sproles can match Danny Woodhead’s remarkable productivity. Sproles leads the NFL as a halfback in Yards per Route Run with 2.66 but Woodhead is second with 2.17 and Woodhead has a knack of getting into the end zone with two more touchdowns.
Upon Further Review: Chargers Week 12 - Eric Williams
Cornerback Derek Cox was benched for a third time in four games after giving up a touchdown to Donnie Avery. Cox was replaced in the lineup by Richard Marshall, and did not return. Cox obviously feels pressure to perform because of the four-year, $20 million deal he signed in the offseason. But Cox doesn’t seem right physically; he doesn’t appear to have the ability to hit another gear and run with faster receivers.
Playing For Position - Mike Tanier
Like the pilgrims planting fish heads to fertilize corn, the Chargers have started to figure out the red zone. On one drive in their 41-38 thriller over the Chiefs, they actually handed off twice to Ryan Mathews inside the 20-yard line! Mathews did not fumble and the sun did not fall from the sky: In fact, Mathews actually scored a touchdown. Later, they went back to their old trick of giving Danny Woodhead the ball on the three-yard line, but at least the first-down handoff came from a shotgun-spread formation, instead of the usual short yardage sausage grinder. Woodhead quickly darted beneath the plane of the goal line as only he can.
Audibles at the Line: Week 12 - Rivers McCown & Andrew Potter
Tom Gower: I've mostly gotten over Rivers looking hinky, but today watching him today reminds me of watching Dan Fouts in the Freezer Bowl
Tom Gower: Keenan Allen has 11 targets on 17 Rivers attempts. That's trust.
Tom Gower: I'm trying to come up with a better word, but Gilchrist/Te'o "coverage" on that Fasano TD was clownish. SD D still a trainwreck.
Anatomy of a Classic - Bill Barnwell
They could be in the catbird seat if they had not lost close games to the Texans and Dolphins. Their upcoming schedule includes the Bengals, Broncos, and Chiefs. San Diego's pass rush is virtually nonexistent, and if the Chargers don't get a rush, their limited secondary looks downright brutal. San Diego can win a shootout with anybody and lose a close game to just about anybody, too.
