Brandon Meriweather suspended for game against Chargers

The Washington Redskins will be without one of their starting safeties when they face the San Diego Chargers in a little under two weeks.

Well, here's some news that I'll struggle to remember in a week and a half...

I'm still not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, Brandon Meriweather is a known head-hunter and I'd rather he not be on the field with the San Diego Chargers offensive players. On the other hand, Brandon Meriweather is routinely one of the league's worst safeties and the Washington Redskins defense probably gets better just by having him removed from the field.

According to the Redskins' depth chart, the next man up is rookie heat-seeking missile Bacarri Rambo. Actually, looking at the snap counts, it looks like four of the five safeties on Washington's roster get on the field fairly regularly, so they probably won't be fazed by Meriweather's suspension (even if he is the one with the most snaps through seven weeks).

Meriweather could also appeal the suspension, which usually takes some time and could leave him active for the Chargers game, so look out for that.
