San Diego Chargers OLB Dwight Freeney to miss the remainder of season

The second big blow within the hour comes from the San Diego Chargers placing Dwight Freeney on Injured Reserve. He'll have season-ending surgery this week on the quad muscle he tore against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Two days ago, San Diego Chargers fans were celebrating as the team returned to a .500 winning percentage on the back of an impressive win over the Dallas Cowboys. Today, two of the team's top players are sent to injured-reserve and will miss the rest of the 2013 season.

Per Gehlken, Dwight Freeney's first season with the Chargers will be over after four games. They were an impressive four games, but we'll look back at this season as one of Freeney's worst because of the paltry numbers (0.5 sacks) and the large chunk of time missed.

The good news is that the Chargers played their best on Sunday without Malcom Floyd or Dwight Freeney on the field. The bad news is that San Diego might have to play a perfect game every time they want to win in 2013. It's looking more and more like Chargers fans are waiting, along with Tom Telesco, for 2014.
