The San Diego Chargers are expected to sign wide receive Lavelle Hawkins later today.
I thought a move like this was coming after the Cleveland Browns claimed Fozzy Whittaker. Many will speculate that this move, to add another WR, means that the San Diego Chargers are worried about Malcom Floyd's recovery time, but I see this as a necessary move to get a real kick returner on the team. Having Danny Woodhead as the kick returner wasn't going to work forever.
Hawkins best year was 2011, when he caught 47 passes for 470 yards with the Tennessee Titans. At 5'11" and 194 lbs, he'll remind many of Eddie Royal in terms of size and what he can do in the return game. I wouldn't expect to see him on the field with the offense any time soon.
