The San Diego Chargers announced today that fifth round selection, Cornerback Steve Williams out of Cal, has signed with the team.
After this week's news that the team had signed Manti Te'o, Keenan Allen, Tourek Williams and Brad Sorenson, first-round selection D.J. Fluker remains the only unsigned rookie. Fluker is participating at the Chargers' Rookie Mini Camp this week and, with the rookie wage scale, nobody expects him to miss any practice time due to contract negotiations.
As mentioned during this week's episode of Gennaro-ly Speaking, Steve Williams might be given a chance to win the starting CB job opposite Derek Cox in 2013 despite being undersized for it. Even if he loses out on that competition, he has to be considered the favorite to win the Nickel CB spot as long as Marcus GIlchrist remains the favorite to win the starter's job at Strong Safety.
Williams will certainly be a player to keep an eye on during training camp and the 2013 NFL preseason.
