San Diego Chargers Select Tourek Williams in 6th Round

The Chargers used their 6th round draft pick on a pass rusher from Florida International. This is a project pick.

US PRESSWIRE

This is a bit of an odd selection.

Tourek Williams

#97 / Defensive- End / Fla. International Golden Panthers

In the 6th round, the San Diego Charger used the 179th overall pick to select Defensive End Tourek Williams out of Florida International.

Williams will be an Outside Linebacker in John Pagano's 3-4 Defense, but has the size to play Defensive End in Nickel packages as well.

The only thing I can find on Williams is that he worked out as both a 4-3 DE and a 3-4 OLB at FIU's pro day and most scouts thought he was better suited for 4-3 DE. Playing DE in college, Williams racked up 6.5 sacks in his senior season (which is his career high).

This isn't an odd selection, it's always good to have pass-rushers, but it's a little odd with such gaping holes left at Strong Safety, Left Tackle and Nose Tackle.

Without a trade, the Chargers have just one pick remaining in the 2013 NFL Draft.
