On Monday, we asked you who would end the season in fourth place. In a surprise to absolutely nobody, a poll that primarily sampled Chargers fans had their most hated rival, the Oakland Raiders (66%), as the favorite to post the worst record in the AFC West. I'll pause to let you recover from the shock.
Just as predictable, in my opinion at least, was the Chargers (19%) coming in second. San Diego sports fans thrive on expecting the worst. Even when things are going well (and they're not going well this year) we're all just waiting for everything to fall apart. This is at least partially because every season most of us have experienced eventually ended in failure. Some of you are old enough to have seen the AFL championship and some of you are fans of indoor soccer, minor league hockey and/or NASCAR. The rest of us know only disappointment. The cool thing about that is we're ready for it.
I was a little surprised that Kansas City (10%) finished with more votes than Denver (5%), but I guess the thought there is even if Peyton Manning dies in week two, he'll still have a better season that Matt Cassel. I suppose that's a fair point.
