The long, arduous search for a backup QB to possibly replace Charlie Whitehurst, if Charlie might need replacing, is over. Today, the team agreed on a one-year contract with veteran backup QB and former first-round draft pick Kyle Boller.
If you read my post earlier today, you read that I wrote Boller off as:
Boller is like a younger Delhomme without that Super Bowl run.
As Wonko was quick to point out in comments of that post, the position is not really of backup QB but more "training camp QB." It's a chance for Boller to get his name in the paper and play against real-live NFL talent while he waits for some other team with a real issue at QB to call him up after the San Diego Chargers eventually cut him.
Or, not. This is the guy, after all, that once throw a football through the uprights while kneeling on the 50-yard line. He was, at one point, thought to have quite the career ahead of him. Maybe he catches fire and.....naaaahhh, I'm just kidding. He's camp fodder, but as far as camp fodder goes.....you could do worse.
