Far be it from me to ever say an unkind word about Eric Weddle. He's arguably the best safety in the NFL. That said, I couldn't be happier that John spent a second consecutive pick on a defensive player. As was mentioned by one of our astute readers* flag football is a game driven by offense. John even acknowledged that by selecting defensive players he (wrongly) believes can contribute on offense and I paid service to the idea by selecting the versatile athlete, Melvin Ingram, with my own first pick. I don't think I mentioned this yesterday, but my team will be known as the Raider Haters. This felt more appropriate than John's team name in that I actually hate the Raiders while he's never eaten a hat.**
At any rate, the newly christened Raider Haters will select with the fourth overall pick of this gala*** future Hall of Fame Tight End Antonio Gates.
Having established that this game will be won by offense, it was flat out insane not to select the best offensive player on the team. Thanks again, John. You're a pal.
I feel like I'm insulting your intelligence by explaining this pick, but bear with me guys. I matched John's first pick by taking a better version of that pick with my first. This time, we counter his second pick, an All Pro Safety, with a Hall of Fame Tight End. Both teams will score points with Philip Rivers at QB and guys playing out of position on defense, but the key here is to not merely get by, but to dominate. There is no more dominant force to be had than Rivers to Gates. I feel like I should apologize for not taking him with my first pick, but I couldn't help snatching up Ingram when I knew John was leaning toward defense.
*The community here really is what makes this site worthwhile no matter what John says. Remember to vote for the Raider Haters to win this competition. Love you guys.
**I can't even begin to properly express how wrong it would be to vote in favor of someone that promises to eat hats, but then fails to do so.
***Really, John? Gala? Whatever.
