The Chargers continued to solidify their offense for 2012 today when they inked versatile backup tight end Randy McMichael to a two year deal (per Bill Johnston's tweet below). McMichael, a Norv Turner favorite, is an able receiver, pass blocker and run blocker that can line up all over the formation. He's also a great locker room guy by all accounts.
A.J. Smith has been very busy in free agency with this move being the GM's tenth signing in five days. The offensive depth chart is very nearly completely filled for 2012 with the entire 2011 tight end group returning. It's unknown if this will preclude the Chargers from drafting a tight end in what isn't a very strong TE draft class in the first place. And now we'll continue to wait for an RB2 signing.
Let us know what you think about this signing in the comments and who you think is next in line to call San Diego home in 2012.
UFA #9 - TE Randy McMichael agrees to 2-yr deal, not counting Hardwick who signed just prior to free agency.
