Since everyone wants to talk about Peyton Manning, even in the comments of a San Diego Chargers blog, let's talk about Peyton Manning.
Talk about Peyton going to the Chiefs is ludicrous. Do you really think "the Patriots way" is to sign Manning (the new Brett Favre) and risk it all for a short run? No, they'll stand behind Matt Cassel for at least another season (they kind of have to, financially) and keep their eye on Ricky Stanzi's progress as the project.
Talk about Peyton going to the Broncos is less ludicrous, but goes to show you why QB relations have never really been John Fox's strong suit. Now "golden boy" Tim Tebow is upset/scared that he's lost his best chance at starting in the NFL, and he might be right. I also don't know that Peyton's going to want to try to be "the new John Elway" while Elway is upstairs watching him.
Here's a better question: What does A.J. Smith think of Peyton landing in the AFC West?
"I don't know, and I really don't care," Smith said when asked Sunday if he thought Manning would end up with one of the Chargers' AFC West rivals. "I concentrate on the Chargers."
...
"I do wish him the best in whatever the Manning family decides," said Smith, who drafted Eli Manning first overall and traded him to the New York Giants for Philip Rivers and other draft picks. "I don't know why you would ask me. And I don't know why anyone is asking Peyton. If you really want to know what's going on -- what trips he's making and where he's going to play -- call Archie."
I've said it before and I'll undoubtedly say it again: A.J.'s the best.
