San Diego Chargers Place Vaughn Martin and Darrell Stuckey on IR

Two more Chargers hit the IR with just three games left to go in the season. Their roster spots have been filled by Gary Guyton and Curtis Brinkley.

I was a little curious what was going on when Marcus Gilchrist tweeted yesterday about Curtis Brinkley being back with the San Diego Chargers, but now it makes more sense.

With three games left to go in the season, the Chargers have placed Defensive End Vaughn Martin and Safety (and Special Teams specialist) Darrell Stuckey on the Injured-Reserve list. Their open roster spots have been filled by the signings of Linebacker Gary Guyton and Running Back (and return specialist) Curtis Brinkley.

I suppose Guyton is here to help with the rash of injures at Inside Linebacker, but I'm not exactly certain why Brinkley is here (unless he's great on coverage units, which I don't really recall him being).

The good news is that the Chargers defensive line looked better than ever when Vaughn Martin left the game last week. This opens up more playing time for Kendall Reyes and, hopefully, similar results to what we saw on Sunday. The bad news is that, if the Chargers are still hoping to make the playoffs, they need someone like Stuckey to come up with a few big special teams plays per game.
