Michael Gehlken is reporting today that San Diego Chargers starting Strong Safety Atari Bigby will miss 3-5 weeks with the groin injury that knocked him out of Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens.
With just 5 weeks left in a season that will not end in playoffs, that's a wrap on Bigby's first season with San Diego. Brandon Taylor will probably get the remaining 5 games to show the coaches (both the ones that are here and ones that may be coming in next season) that he has that ability to be a starting Safety in the NFL right now.
Bigby is currently 2nd on the team in tackles (68), trailing only LB Donald Butler. He also defended 3 passes in 11 games.
Atari could certainly return by the end of the season and maybe even play some Special Teams but, barring some miracle turnaround by both the Chargers and Broncos, there is no reason why the team should risk Bigby's health or take away time from Taylor by putting the veteran back in the starting lineup.
