Week 5 Quick Reads - Vince Verhei
Rivers didn’t have a lot of luck once the Chargers crossed the New Orleans 40, going 5-of-10 for 39 yards and two first downs (including a touchdown) plust one DPI, two sacks, and a fumble.

ReFo: Chargers @ Saints, Week 5 - Khaled Elsayed
Sometimes a full games worth of top quality play can be undone in two plays. That’s how it must feel for Jared Gaither (+4.1) who put forth one of the best left tackles performance we’ve seen this year until injury hit him hard. Afterwards, nobody seemed to realize the best place for him wasn’t on the field.

Had a Bad Day Team, Week 5 - Khaled Elsayed
It remains something of an oddity that Johnson found his way to San Diego. One of the best edge defenders of the run in the game has looked a step out of place in San Diego and continues to struggle to generate any pressure. Phillips did pick up a sack, hit and hurry but on 34 rushes you’d like more of a return.

Team of the Week, Week 5 - Khaled Elsayed
Not a great week for nose tackles, with an encouraging start by Franklin muted as the Saints devoted more resources to him. A fifth consecutive selection for Watt who shows no signs of slowing down, but it’s a first nod for his fellow sophomore Corey Liuget who picked up a sack, hurry and two batted passes in a real breakout performance.

AFC West Stock Watch - Bill Williamson
There has been a lot of talk about whether Mathews was even the Chargers’ primary back anymore. Sure, Jackie Battle has been ahead of him at times, but there is no doubt the Chargers want Mathews to carry the load, and they know they will be better shape if he does. Mathews had 80 yards on 12 carries Sunday at New Orleans and he had some big runs. He is digging himself out of the doghouse.

NFL: Week 5 knee-jerk reactions - ESPN.com staff
The Chargers would have led the AFC West by two games with a win at New Orleans. They would have been in charge. Now, they have to regroup or risk being tied with the Broncos next week.
