3rd Round Pick Shareece Wright Inks Four Year Deal

The former USC CB agreed to his first pro contract and in doing so because the second-to-last draft pick to sign. Only 1st round pick Corey Liuget remains unsigned at this point. Wright's role with the Chargers in 2011 is a bit fuzzy at this point. With Dante Hughes returning and fellow rookie Marcus Gilchrist in the fold it would seem that the nickle and dime cornerback spots are taken. Shareece will have to make his mark on special teams or risk being on the inactives list for most of the season. On thing to keep in mind is that the Chargers did bring in veteran Nathan Vasher last year on a 2 year deal only to cut him before the season. Perhaps the same thing could happen to Hughes if Wright has good camp.

From what I understand the future for Shareece Wright is hopefully as a starter. While at USC he mainly served as a backup before missing time with a pretty serious injury. It wasn't until his senior year where he started getting the playing time and experience needed to develop. Because of that he's seen as a guy with a lot of upside. An upside that if tapped into could result in an above average starting cornerback in the NFL. That's basically a long way of saying that a year on the bench for a guy whose value is long term isn't necessarily the worst thing. He'll need time to development and sometimes that means taking in the league from the bench for year.
