We've all been there, haven't we? You're out of work or school long enough on (forced) vacation and you end up just drinking to pass the time. I imagine that's what a bunch of these NFL players are dealing with, so it doesn't really come as a shock that another Charger has been involved in an alcohol-related offense.
Antwan Applewhite was pulled over at 2:23AM Friday morning in Pacific Beach and was determined to be driving under the influence and arrested. He was booked and his bail set at $2,500, and his court date scheduled for June 17th. He had a female companion with him that was given a ride to another location – likely her home.
The Chargers released the following statement:
It’s disappointing to hear about the issue involving Antwan Applewhite. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course.
In a cruel twist of irony, he was a Criminal Justice major at San Diego State.
Applewhite was a restricted free agent this year, and was already considered a fringe player. Given AJ Smith's history of not wanting to deal with off-the-field issues, Applewhite is all but guaranteed to be leaving the team soon.
