2011 Chargers' Opponent Spotlight: Jacksonville Jaguars

For the second time in two years, the San Diego Chargers will once again face off against the Jacksonville Jaguars and former Charger and SDSU Aztec, Kassim Osgood. Last year's meeting came in week 2, before anyone was aware that there were going to be huge issues with the Special Teams group on the Bolts.

The Chargers blew the Jags out of the water, winning 38-13 (which included a meaningless late-game TD to mike Sims-Walker) while knocking both David Garrard and then Luke McCown out of the game.

2010 Record: 8-8, 2nd in AFC South

Key Free Agents

Mike Sims-Walker, WR
Atiyyah Ellison, DT
Freddie Keiaho, LB
Kirk Morrison, LB
Sean Considine, S

They actually had a few more important guys (Luke McCown, Marcedes Lewis, David Jones, etc.) that were due to be free agents but agreed to sign one-year contracts to stay in Jacksonville. It seems, with their coaching and quarterback situations, that this team is playing for it's life year-in and year-out.

This team will not be much different, and will not be much more of a threat, in 2011 than they were in 2010. The QB is still erratic, they need help at WR, the defense is terrible (especially at defending the pass) and the coach's job is threatened every season. What they need is a really good draft, or to sign away a player like Eric Weddle that can immediately improve one of their big weaknesses. If they can't do that, even at home in Florida they should have trouble against the Chargers again.
