Actual contract details are scarce at the moment, but we have received word that the Chargers have signed two players to new contracts: backup Nose Tackle Ogembi Nwagbuo, and linebacker James Holt. Both players were exclusive rights free agents this year, under the terms of the current CBA, so it should come as no surprise that the Chargers automatically signed them by offering them a tender.
Nwagbuo has shown promise at nose tackle, after being picked up by the team as he was working the service desk at an Enterprise Rent-a-Car. He's been solid at run stopping, but not so great with the pass-rush. He'll continue to serve as Antonio Garay's backup, but it's good to see he'll be sticking around in the league.
James Holt has only played in the league for two years, originally an undrafted free agent. He signed a two-year contract with the Chargers after the 2009 draft, and was signed to the practice squad before the season started. Holt worked with the practice squad, focusing on Special Teams. He has had his issues with injuries, however: he was placed on IR after the last game of the season last year with a shoulder injury, and again 3 games into the 2010 season with a shoulder injury.
