Greg Manusky is the new Defensive Coordinator for the San Diego Chargers

Though previously reported as not being a done deal, our sources tell us that Greg Manusky has agreed to become the next Defensive Coordinator for the San Diego Chargers, and it is in fact a done deal. No official word has come from the team yet, so any other details on his appointment are unknown at this time.

Manusky has served as the Defensive Coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers for the last 4 seasons, and prior to that, he was the Chargers' Linebackers coach for 4 seasons. San Diego is glad to have him back, as the team was very disappointed to see him leave during the Great Coach Exodus™ following the 2006 season.

Even though Manusky was running a hybrid 3-4/4-3 defense up in San Francisco, do not expect the Chargers to switch to the 4-3. The team will continue to employ a 3-4 scheme, with which Manusky has experience from his time with San Diego previously, and let's not forget the Chargers have the personnel for a 3-4 scheme already.

He was in high demand this week, having interviewed with three different teams: the Cowboys, Cardinals and Chargers (hmm maybe he just wants to be on a team with a name starting with "C" ... okay maybe not). Glad to see the Chargers were the winners in the Greg Manusky Lottery.
