BFTB Scouting: College Bowl Games Part 1

Featured Game
R+L CARRIERS NEW ORLEANS BOWL
Ohio
(8-4) vs Troy (7-5) Saturday 12/18 6:00 PM PT (ESPN)

The Ohio Bobcats finished with the 3rd best record in the MAC to earn their spot in the New Orleans Bowl. Ohio's head coach Frank Solich used to head up the Nebraska football team and even coached them all the way to a spot in the National Championship Game. At Ohio he's brought the program to new heights. The school went decades without a bowl appearance, but since he got there they've been to multiple. However, they have yet to win one and will get their next shot at postseason victory in this bowl game. They are a strong defensive unit, but also have a Senior QB in Boo Jackson who is very capable and a senior WR Terrence McCare who provides a good target.

Troy shared a Sun Belt Conference Championship this season with Florida International and has been a perennial powerhouse in that conference. In the past Troy has featured such future NFL players as the New York Giants' Osi Umenyiora, Dallas' DeMarcus Ware, Buffalo's Leodis McKelvin and San Diego's Brandon Lang. This year their best NFL talent is Jerrel Jernigan. In fact, in this game he's the only sure-fire NFL prospect. It'll be the job of freshman QB Corey Robinson to get Jernigan the ball as well as his other receivers in Troy's spread offense. Robinson led the Sun Belt conference in yards, but will face a tough defense in Ohio.
