Week 5 recap:
- Leonard Hankerson broke out for a huge day against a Clemson pass defense that has a couple of pro prospects. He was used mainly as a deep threat and was able to get separation. He's been the Hurricanes only consistent target on offense and this week they finally treated him like it.
- Jacquizz Rodgers had a pretty big game himself, but it was against Arizona St. who apparently can't stop the run very well.
- Most of my favorite WRs didn't fair well this week. The common theme was 5 catches and under 70 yards. On the plus side, with each week the Chargers look less wide receiver needy.
- Oklahoma S Quinton Carter finally took a step up a playmaker by picking off a pass and giving it a good run back.
- LSU's Patrick Peterson is looking pretty good returning punts. That's something that could be useful for the Chargers next season.
Here's the matchups I'm focusing on for week 6:
Clemson (2-2) vs North Carolina (2-2) - Saturday 10/9 12:30 PT (ABC or ESPN)
Pittsburgh (2-2) vs Notre Dame (2-3) - Saturday 10/9 12:30 PT (NBC)
LSU (5-0) vs Florida (4-1) - Saturday 10/9 4:30 PM (ESPN)
Every week I'll also ask all of you to please share what games you'll be watching and what players you'd think would look good in blue and gold or just generally impressed/disappointed you.
Clemson vs. North Carolina - I've talked about these teams multiple times this year. The Clemson Tigers and their stud S DeAndre McDaniel came up in week 3. And North Carolina first appeared in week 1 with their stud ILB Quan Sturdivant and a bunch of suspended players. This week UNC gets one of those suspended prospects back in S Deunta Williams and it should be interesting to see how he finally plays and if he can maintain his second round potential. Also, watch out for Clemson CB Marcus Gilchrist who picked up an INT last week
Pittsburgh vs Notre Dame - This matchup is all about two WRs trying to get themselves some first round money and perhaps end up as Chargers. Notre Dame and WR Michael Floyd were introduced in week 1. Pittsburgh and their WR Jonathan Baldwin came up in week 4. We're also watching Pittsburgh OLB prospect Jabaal Sheard in this one.
LSU vs Florida - A classic matchup of SEC powerhouses. Both have won National Championships in the past decade and both are probably playing second fiddle to Alabama again. Florida already suffered a loss to the Crimson Tide while LSU tries to stay unbeaten here in order to face Alabama unblemished. LSU WR Terrence Tolliver, who got mentioned here in week 1, has his work cut out for him against Florida CB Janoris Jenkins and S Ahmed Black who both got introduced last week. Also on display is LSU CB Patrick Peterson who, as I mentioned earlier, also returns kicks and punts for the Tigers.
