English eager to learn with Chargers - Rockford, IL - Rockford Register Star
After sprinting toward the ball carrier Sunday, San Diego Chargers linebacker Larry English would make a beeline to three-time Pro Bowler Shawne Merriman, to hear what the knowledgeable veteran had to say.
"I know for one that he was in the same position as me a few years back," said English, the team’s first-round pick out of Northern Illinois University. "So he knows what I am going through firsthand.
"It’s my job to keep pushing and keep pushing and keep pushing," Merriman said. "He was asking what I see, and I would say something about it. As a player, that is hard to do sometimes — you don’t notice it, but you notice it on the film. But before we get to the film, if I see something I’ll say, ‘OK, you are turning your shoulders here, or you’re taking off like this.’ It’s just what I see out there.
Manning deal to have trickle effect - NFL - Yahoo! Sports
It’s widely known that Rivers’ agent Jimmy Sexton wanted to wait until after Manning did his contract before working on Rivers’ deal. In fact, when rumors swirled in February that Manning was working on a new deal, Sexton was extremely curious about the state of the negotiations.
Michael Vick? Chargers just say no. | The Fabulous Forum | Los Angeles Times
Count the San Diego Chargers among the growing list of NFL teams that have said they have no intention of signing disgraced quarterback Michael Vick, recently granted conditional reinstatement by Commissioner Roger Goodell.
"Some head coaches and GMs would talk about it, but for what?" Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith told The Times. "I don't know why you'd want to fool with it."
Line coach preaches aggression
"We're getting penetration upfield a lot more," Jamal Williams said. "It's more of a different philosophy. It used to be all about stopping the run and holding down the line of scrimmage. Now, we've got a guy in Coach Johnson who emphasizes getting more penetration upfield which we, as players, didn't do as well last year. And he's putting more emphasis on that right now, especially during camp so we don't have any bad habits during the season."
"Chambers is stepping up" by Chargers Blog
Shawne Merriman, Jamal Williams and Larry English were all on the side this morning. Merriman and Williams should practice tonight, as they were just getting some "veteran rest." English will likely sit again with a sight hamstring strain.

Life has gone from good to great for Chargers' Cesaire
The former undrafted free agent out of little Southern Connecticut State has been an integral part of the Chargers defense, having played in every game over the last five seasons. He has been considered the super sub, performing capably at all three positions on the defensive line.
Now, for the first time, the 6-foot-2, 295-pounder has been tabbed by head coach Norv Turner as the starter at right defensive end. Not because somebody is hurt, but because Cesaire has earned the right to be there.
