Pythagenport Relative Power Index Week 14

There was a lot of movement this week with only eight teams occupying the same spot they did last week.  The Titans and Giants traded spots again.  The Colts and Chargers made the biggest leaps forward with dominating wins over bad teams and the Cowboys fell the most spots on the strength of their 4th Quarter collapse against a rather good team.

Of the 32 teams in the NFL, 22 of them are within one standard deviation of the league average and all but one of them are within two standard deviations.  Sadly, the team that is furthest from the mean isn't the Titans at #1, but the St. Louis Rams at #32.  They have just been insanely awful getting outscored by 225 points over 13 games, or to put it in terms that don't require numbers: worse than the winless Lions.  Apparently, it's easier to be much worse than average than much better.  Six of the ten teams outside of one SD from the mean are on the bottom end of the list and four teams are at least as bad as the best team is good.

Anyway, as for the Chargers connection: we have games left against the #28, #7 and # 23 teams.
